The Westland Whirlwind was a British helicopter family whose gas-turbine HAR10 and HC10 variants formed the Royal Air Force’s 1960s backbone for search and rescue and tactical transport. Earlier piston-engined HAR2 and HAR4 aircraft were later re-engined, and Whirlwinds served across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Far East for more than two decades.
