X-30 National Aero-Space Plane Hypersonic Research Vehicle Family
The X-30 National Aero-Space Plane was the joint NASA and Department of Defense research vehicle for demonstrating airbreathing hypersonic and transatmospheric technology. The concept targeted horizontal runway takeoff and landing, sustained hypersonic atmospheric flight, and reusable single-stage-to-orbit capability; only a one-third-scale concept demonstrator was tested in a high-temperature tunnel before the full-scale aircraft was cancelled when funding ended in 1994.
