Atlas-Able vehicle 80 launched Pioneer P-30/Able 5A on 25 September 1960. The Atlas first stage performed normally, but an oxidizer-system failure caused the Able stage to ignite abnormally and shut down early; the probe reentered before reaching lunar-transfer velocity.
