Bell X-1-1, serial 46-062, was the first of the original X-1 research aircraft. It made its first glide flight on January 19, 1946. On October 14, 1947, U.S. Air Force pilot Chuck Yeager flew the aircraft, named Glamorous Glennis, through Mach 1 in controlled level flight. Yeager made its final flight on May 12, 1950 before transfer to the Smithsonian.
