Boeing YB-52 serial 49-231 was the second B-52 prototype built but the first to fly. It made the family’s first flight from Boeing Field, Seattle, on 15 April 1952, beginning flight testing of the swept-wing, eight-engine Stratofortress design that became the Air Force’s longest-serving heavy bomber family.
