The first de Havilland DH.110 prototype WG236 was built at Hatfield for the twin-boom all-weather jet-fighter project. Chief test pilot John Cunningham flew it for the first time on 26 September 1951; the prototype then supported the development that became the carrier-based Sea Vixen.
