The first de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito prototype was built secretly at Salisbury Hall as E-0234, moved to Hatfield, and renumbered W4050. It made the type’s first flight on 25 November 1940 and later served as a test-bed and research aircraft before becoming the preserved prototype at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum.
