CARE was ISRO's full-scale Crew Module Atmospheric Re-entry Experiment. LVM3-X carried the 3,775 kg article to a suborbital altitude of 126 km on December 18, 2014; it then performed a controlled re-entry, deployed its parachutes, splashed down in the Andaman Sea, and was recovered. The flight validated crew-module aerothermodynamics, thermal protection, deceleration, and recovery technologies used by the Gaganyaan programme.
