Giotto
Giotto was the European Space Agency probe launched on July 2, 1985 to encounter Comet Halley. It returned the first close images of a comet nucleus, survived the dusty flyby, used an Earth gravity assist for an extended mission, and became the first spacecraft to visit two comets when it passed Grigg-Skjellerup in 1992.
