Grumman XF6F-1 prototype
The first Grumman XF6F-1 prototype, the G-50 design's initial flying airframe, made its first flight in June 1942 with a Wright R-2600 Cyclone engine. Its trials established the Hellcat flight-test programme before the second prototype's more powerful R-2800 installation led to the XF6F-3 configuration.
