ISEE-3 / ICE

ISEE-3 began as NASA’s Sun–Earth L1 heliophysics observatory launched on 12 August 1978, then became the International Cometary Explorer and flew past comet Giacobini-Zinner in 1985 as the first spacecraft to fly past a comet. It later supplied solar-wind data during the Halley Armada before NASA terminated operations on 5 May 1997.
