Luna 23 spacecraft was improved Ye-8-5M station No. 410, comprising a descent stage, an ascent stage and an Earth-return capsule. Its damaging November 1974 landing in Mare Crisium prevented sampling and return. Later LROC images showed the complete vehicle on its side, with the ascent hardware still attached on the Moon.
