Lunar Orbiter 1 was the Boeing-built LO-A flight article launched on August 10, 1966. It became the first United States spacecraft to orbit the Moon, photographed candidate Apollo landing sites, returned the first image of Earth from the Moon's vicinity, and was deliberately deorbited on October 29.
