Alpha was the Morpheus article used for the initial Kennedy free-flight campaign. On 7 August 2012 it briefly lifted off and automatically aborted after a false engine-fault indication. On 9 August IMU data was lost shortly after liftoff and the vehicle crashed. The investigation isolated the failure to the IMU-to-flight-computer data path; hardware and test-process improvements were applied to Bravo.
