North American NA-73X Mustang prototype
The NA-73X was North American Aviation's prototype for the Mustang family, produced rapidly in response to a British request for a fighter better suited than a licensed P-40. Its October 1940 flight-test programme established the aerodynamic foundation for the subsequent Mustang series.
