The 22,000-pound Orion crew-module test article flown with a fully functional launch abort system during NASA's Ascent Abort-2 test on 2 July 2019. The capsule was pulled clear of its booster under high-stress ascent conditions, reached about 55,000 feet, and splashed into the Atlantic without parachutes; it was intentionally not recovered.
