Phobos 1
Phobos 1 was the physical Soviet Mars-moon orbiter launched on 7 July 1988 to study Mars, Phobos, and Deimos. Communications were lost during cruise after a control-system failure, before the planned Mars-orbit and Phobos-encounter operations.
