The PV-3, designated XHRP-X by the U.S. Navy and nicknamed the Dogship, was the flying technology demonstrator that proved Piasecki's fore-and-aft tandem-rotor arrangement. It first flew on 7 March 1945 and directly enabled the HRP rescue-transport family.
