Ranger 5

Ranger 5 was NASA's P-36 lunar impact-probe spacecraft and the third U.S. attempt to reach the Moon with a Ranger Block II vehicle. A battery malfunction left the spacecraft inoperable; it passed the Moon on 21 October 1962 and entered heliocentric orbit.
