ISRO’s HEX-01 winged demonstrator flew on 23 May 2016 from Sriharikota, separating from an HS9 solid booster before a hypersonic guided descent toward a defined landing area over the Bay of Bengal. The test validated navigation, guidance, thermal protection and reentry management. It was the winged research article carried by the booster, rather than the HS9 launch stage itself.
