Scout X-1 ST-4
Scout X-1 ST-4 was the first all-solid launch vehicle to place a satellite into orbit. It launched from Wallops on 16 February 1961 and successfully deployed NASA’s inflatable Explorer 9 atmospheric-density satellite, also marking the first successful orbital launch from Wallops Island.
