Smithsonian Lilienthal Normal Glider A19060001000

This original Lilienthal Normal Glider was bought from Otto Lilienthal by newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst and flight-tested on a Long Island estate in 1896. After exhibition in New York, it was donated to the Smithsonian in 1906. The National Air and Space Museum preserves it as the only original Lilienthal glider in the Western Hemisphere.
