Soyuz 40 was a Soviet Soyuz 7K-T spacecraft launched on May 14, 1981 for the Romanian Intercosmos visiting mission to Salyut 6. The spacecraft carried commander Leonid Popov and Romanian research cosmonaut Dumitru Dorin Prunariu, docked with Salyut 6 the next day, and returned the same crew on May 22 after a week of joint scientific work aboard the station. It was the final Soyuz 7K-T spacecraft to fly and the last Soyuz to dock with Salyut 6 before the program shifted fully to later Soyuz variants.
