It carried Talgat Musabayev, Nikolai Budarin, and CNES research cosmonaut Léopold Eyharts to Mir for the Mir-25 / Pégase mission. Eyharts returned earlier aboard Soyuz TM-26, while Soyuz TM-27 stayed at Mir and landed on August 25, 1998 with Musabayev, Budarin, and Yuri Baturin.
