It carried Gennady Padalka, Mikhail Kornienko, and Scott Kelly to the International Space Station for the start of Expeditions 43 and 44 and the one-year mission for Kelly and Kornienko. The spacecraft later returned Padalka, Andreas Mogensen, and Aydyn Aimbetov to Earth on September 12, 2015 after Mogensen and Aimbetov completed short-duration visiting missions.
